Flooring
When choosing flooring for your interior decorating projects you need to consider the following:-
Will it have to stand up to heavy or light traffic?
Does it need to be stain resistant?
Does it need to be slip resistant? (Bathrooms,Kitchens etc.)
Does it need to be warm underfoot? (Bedrooms)
Does it need to provide sound proofing?
It should also be suitable to the interior decorating style. Is it a Victorian style, country, formal or contemporary for example?
There are there major types:-
Hard
1. Wood is a perfect complement to almost any style room. Wood works best in splash free areas. Heavy traffic will eventually leave its mark.
2. Stone is easy to maintain and is durable. Comfort and safety when wet are a concern.
3. Ceramic is available in many colors, styles and sizes. It is durable and water resistant, but can be cold and hard.
Resilient flooring
1. Vinyl is admired for its cushiony quality and ability to stand up to moisture, with lots of design flexibility. Must be careful with sharp or heavy objects.
2. Linoleum is making a comeback. It is all natural, colorful and soft underfoot. Great for the kitchen for cushioning items that fall. It has the ability to change color in sunlight and is prone to scratching.
3. Cork is soft enough to recover from dents and safe in the bathroom. It is less durable than vinyl and must be waterproofed for use in the bathroom.
Soft
1.
Carpet
is warm underfoot and provides sound proofing.
2.
Rugs,
especially Oriental rugs,
add a decorative touch to any room and help soften hard floors in the kitchen and bathroom.
