Window Treatments

Window treatments are used to control light, provide privacy, insulating from heat & cold and beauty to your home's interior.

When choosing window coverings for your home decorating projects consider the mood that you want to set in the room. (traditional, country, or

contemporary etc.)

They can be simple or elaborate and should harmonize with the furnishings in the room and your budget.

There are many types to choose from as seen in this encylopedia of window treatments

Blinds - have slats that open and close for light control,(mini, vertical, wood..)

Shades - typically moves up and down to uncover or cover the window for light control (roller, balloon, roman...)

Shutters - are swung open or shut and can have fixed or moveable louvers for light and air control.

Sheers - a curtain made of thin translucent fabric to diffuse sunlight while allowing an outside view with some privacy.

Draperies - a curtain that is lined: lining protects and adds body to the treatment, insulates, provides blackout, and gives a neutral look from the street.

Valances - a decorative topping that can be used alone or to enhance other window treatments, and are available in many styles.

A window treatment can be soft or hard. A soft treatment is one fabricated from fabric and a hard treatment is one fabricated from wood, metal, plastic ...

In addition there are the following catagories:-

Ready made - come in selected sizes only in a stock program

Made-to-measure or order - offers limited options in size, fabric and color, better than ready made

Custom Window Treatments - are made specifically for you

Do-it-yourself - there are books and patterns to help those who are ambitious enough to sew their own.

Measuring - There is a saying, "measure twice cut once" (use a steel ruler.) For custom window treatments the workroom or seller should do the measuring and provide or arrange the installation.
