Types of Ceiling Fixtures

The simplest ceiling fixtures, the type you find in many older homes, are a socket in the middle of the ceiling with a bare bulb in it. At least that is what I grew up with. It gives off lots of light, more than you want sometimes.

Today there are many more options to choose from.

There is the simple decorative light -

There are recessed lights, which are fitted into a space inside the ceiling. You can have a floodlamp which would cast a broad beam in approximately a 2 ft radius.

Or you can have a spotlight which would cast a narrow beam to light specific objects.

There is the hanging ceiling fixture or chandelier which comes in a variety of shapes and styles, ranging from simple to elegant. A must have for over the dining room table.

Track lighting uses an electrified track attached to the ceiling.

Individual lighting fixtures are inserted at points along the track. Track lighting gives you control over the positioning and direction of all the lights, giving your flexibilty to make changes .
