My Living Room Paint Color
One of the first things we had to do was choose paint for the inside of our new home. I knew that I wanted it to have a sunny look and a yellow shade was what I had in mind. My husband though was not convinced.
Before I chose the paint color I looked for a print fabric that I could use for window treatments consisting of yellow, blue (for my husband), and a red/rose/burgundy type color in it. I didn’t want a flowery pattern so it was difficult finding the right fabric. It would have been easier if I was not set on having those three colors in an abstract pattern. During my search I came across several prints that I loved, but they didn’t contain those colors, or they weren’t the right type of pattern.
When I found a pattern that I could live with I took it to the paint shop to choose a yellow color that matched the yellow shade in the fabric. I bought the color samples and the fabric sample to the house and looked at them together in the room. I chose a yellow shade that matched the yellow in the fabric for the living room area and a lighter shade of that color for the bedrooms and hallway.
When we put the paint on the walls my husband liked the lighter shade but when the darker shade was put on the walls he wasn’t too happy. Tell you the truth, I was not convinced that I had the right shade myself, but we were in a hurry and there was no time to change it.
But once the furniture was moved into the room the color on the walls looked perfect. That is why it is best to have a color scheme and not get side tracked by looking at things in isolation. As my school motto said, “Keep the end in view”.
