Types of Table Lamps

Table lamps are generally used for task lighting for reading and to light a work area. They can also be used for mood lighting. They are used on various types of tables such as bedside tables, sofa tables, night tables or desks, and are also used on objects such as pianos. Their secondary purpose is as an accessory to make the room pop.

They normally come with a vase shaped bottom or column shape bottom. There are many styles to choose from; from the traditional to the contemporary.

Traditional table lamps were often converted from other items such as vases and scuptures. Contemporary lamps are usually functional in design.

This column shaped lamp with its crackle glass shade is a popular example of one used for mood lighting, since it sheds its light in an upward direction instead of down for task lightling.

This flexible clip on table lamp is a great example of task lighting, specifically for a desk.
